Jean E. Martin (nee Cooney) 78, (suddenly), of Tinley Park.
Born in East Orange, N.J. she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (nee Stratton). She met her husband Stephen while working as a teacher in Japan.
Jean was a dedicated and respected teacher for many years at St. Agnes School in Chicago Heights and at public schools in Calumet City and Calumet Park. She loved to travel, read mysteries, and watch British television shows especially Downton Abbey and the Great British Baking Show.
Jean leaves behind her children; Sara (Walter) Furie, Stephen, Kristin, and Andy (Matt). Loving sister of; John (Valerie), Joan (Ralph) Milano, the late Janice (Richard) Martinez and James (Roe). Dearest grandmother of; Elizabeth Furie and Alexandra Furie. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. She adored her dog Queenie and was known as a true, loyal, and generous friend to the many people in her life.
Visitation Thursday, January 12th, 3-8pm, with a prayer service at 6pm, Pastor Jamie Deuser officiating. In light of her passion for educating others and her love for reading, memorials in Jean's name to the Tinley Park Public Library are appreciated
