Joseph Guch passed away peacefully at his home on January 9, 2023. Joseph was born in Chicago IL on July 15, 1933 to Marian & Victoria Guch. Joesph was the last living of his immediate family which includes Dorothy, Marian Jr. (Sonny), Rosie, Anton, Joanne, and Victoria. After graduating High school he was drafted and served two years in the United States Army overseas in Germany where he met the “love of his life” Gisela. They were married for 66 years (until his passing). Joseph and Gisela had four children, Steven, Diane, Michael, and Christopher. Joseph’s grandchildren from Steven & Charmayne are Stephanie & Nikelle, From Michael & Lynn are Matthew, and from Christopher & Jorie are Joseph, Jason, and Jon. He had Great Love for all his children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. After leaving the Army, Joseph worked as a laborer for many different construction jobs as well as a cement truck driver and running his own Auto mechanics business on the South side of Chicago for many years. Before fully retiring, he worked as a doorman along Lake Shore Drive. With every job, Joseph was well known for his positive attitude, work ethic, and his incredible smile. He had a reputation for honesty especially while working on cars. He refused to sell something to people that they did not need to get their car running again. His small shop was well known to family and friends and became a gathering place especially for cooking breakfast in between jobs and ordering spicy fried chicken etc for lunch. Everyone who visited remembers working on their own cars for no charge and eating Chorizo and eggs and occasionally finishing the day with a snifter of Wild Turkey Whisky. Joseph had many friends and enjoyed fishing and hunting with them as well as with his children and all their friends. His favorite spots included hunting in Savanna Illinois and fishing in Canada. As a lifetime member of the Calumet Yacht Club he spent countless days volunteering and enjoying the clubhouse, beach, and boating. Joseph’s greatest legacy is the love and cheerfulness that he exuded with everyone he met along with his detailed funny stories and jokes he told to anyone that would listen. He is loved and missed by so many.
