Mr. Gerald P. Vandenberg, 73, late of Frankfort, formerly of Tinley Park. Veteran U.S. Army Korean Conflict. Cherished husband of Kathryn (nee Huyer); devoted father of Neil Jacob (Betty) and Michelle Kay (Tyler) Kupferschmid. Loving brother of the late Diane (Terry) Stephens. Dearest grandfather of Clara, Julia, Eliza, Nathaniel and Henry. Fond uncle of Sara, Marissa, Erin, Jeff, Leah, Amy, Jennifer and Christopher. A longtime Xerox employee, he was devoted to his wife for 48 wonderful years, and was an exemplary husband and father. He enjoyed vacationing in the Northwoods, Galena, nature, golf, fishing, cooking and had a sharp sense of wit and humor, making his entire family laugh aloud at his jokes, silly songs, and humorous ways. A proud American, he respected the U.S. Flag, and was quite proud of his service as a U.S. Army soldier. Wake Wednesday, June 9th 3 - 8pm at the Maher Funeral Home. Funeral Mass Thursday 10:00 am.
