Patty Lucille Pelke

Patty Lucille (Bruggink) Pelke – 99, formerly of Markham, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on November 21, 2022, three weeks shy of her 100th birthday. She was born on December 14, 1922 in Spokane, Washington to Lulo Mae (Foster) Bruggink and Garrett James Bruggink. After residing in various towns as a child, she and her family came to reside in Hammond, Indiana from approximately age 9 to age 17. She was a graduate of Hammond High School in 1940. In September of the following year, she married Herbert R. Pelke of Harvey, Illinois and they made their home in Markham, Illinois where they resided in the same house for 72 years. After Herbert’s death in 2013 and a hip replacement in 2014, she was brought out to Colorado to live out her days with daughter Becky and her husband, Mike. She was a fighter and in spite of her age, her frail body and declining health, she persevered for a little more than 8 years. She was a wonderful mother, a faithful wife and a consummate homemaker. She loved people and was always ready to help when help was needed. But, most of all, she was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Her Christian example and generosity was apparent to all who knew her. The most important things in life to her were God, her husband, her children and grandchildren and the numerous friends she held dear to her heart throughout her many years. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents Lulo Mae (1953) and Garrett James (1979), sister Betta Jean (Bruggink) White (2012), daughter Victory Jean (Pelke) Oliver (2012), son David Johnathan Pelke Sr. (2020), daughter-in-law Cecelia Marie (Anderson) Pelke (2017), daughter-in-law Laurie Pelke (2022) and granddaughter Kristin Noel Pelke (2022). She is survived by sons Timothy James Pelke (Linda), Herbert Ronald Pelke III, daughter Rebecca Anne (Pelke) Martin (Michael) and 10 grandchildren: Chad Daniel Cunningham, Travis Wade Cunningham (Melanie), Jenny (Oliver) Royer (John) and Aleesha Oliver Jones (Ron), Ronald Todd Pelke (Donna), Heidi Lynne Pelke, Michael Aaron Pelke, Kaylee Marie (Pelke) Marquez (Juan) and Timothy James Pelke Jr., David Johnathan Pelke Jr. (Amy) and Leslie Ann (Pelke) Perez (Edgar), and six great-grandchildren: Justin Blaha, Colin Russell Cunningham, Gabriel David Pelke, Brooklynn Grace Pelke, Ezzrielle Lace Marquez and Nathan Jonathan Perez.
