Roger Harris, 66, late of Tinley Park. Retired longtime member Tinley Park Volunteer Fire Dept. Beloved son of his late parents, Roger Sr. and Marilyn (nee' Russell). Devoted husband of Helen (nee Ostrowski). Former husband of Elaine Decker. Beloved father of; Krystal (Chris) Vanlue, Michael (Bernadette) and David (Amy). Loving papa of Aidan and Sadie. Roger graduated from Rich Central High School in 1975. A dedicated Tinley Park firefighter, Roger never hesitated to respond to an emergency call. Whether bitter cold on a dark night nor blistering heat, or while just sitting down to a family dinner, when his beeper sounded he sprang up to help a citizen in need. Aside from his love for the fire service, he enjoyed nature, always making sure the birds had a full feeder, and enjoyed watching nature-oriented shows that would make Marlin Perkins from "The Wild Kingdom" gratified knowing he had a faithful fan. He also enjoyed spending time at Lake Shelbyville, and visited there frequently. He was an avid history buff, and took an interest in the history of the Titanic ocean liner. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of many historical events and could engage even the most respected professor in learned conversation. A man with a great sense of humor, he made even the most serious people laugh. The lyrics "There are lines upon my face from a lifetime of smiles" from Joshua Kadison's song "Beautiful In My Eyes" personified his marriage and will forever hold in Helen's heart.
Visitation Friday, February 16th, 4-8pm, with a Fire Dept "White-Glove Walk Through" at 6:30. Interment Private.
