Shirley Anne Bailey, was born on October 8, 1953 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late James
and L.V. Bailey Sr. After graduating from Rogers High School, Shirley decided to move to
Chicago for better opportunities. She was a woman of many talents, and learned many life
altering skills that she shared graciously. Shirley loved helping people, and decided to
attend nursing school.
Ultimately, her career of choice was in Hospitality. She enjoyed being a hostess and
welcoming people into the Embassy Suites by Hilton Hotel. Shirley was loved by many
people and won multiple awards there.
Shirley loved her life in Chicago and often times could be heard expressing that “GO” was
the last letters of Chicago because it was the city that never stopped. Her smile and laugh
was infectious and she was always seen spreading joy to those around her. Shirley’s laugh
was so recognizable by family and friends that if you heard it you knew she was close by.
Shirley loved her life to the fullest and brought positivity into everything she did. Her
greatest joy in life was her children. She always made sure they had all of life’s necessities as
well as a book in their hand.
Shirley transitioned into her eternal life on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Shirley was preceded
in death by her daughter Classey Bailey; her parents James and L.V. Bailey Sr; one sister,
Carrie Pommier, and four brothers Leo Bailey, Theo Bailey, Arthur Foote, and Clifton
