Obituary

Wanda Theresa Malec passed away on July 5, 2023, at the age of 96 in Tinley Park, Illinois.  Wanda was born on April 20, 1927, in Harvey, Illinois to George and Mary Wlodek.  She retired after a dedicated 33 years at Illinois Central Railroad as a Switchboard Operator. After retirement she dedicated her time volunteering at church related events through St. John Church and being a devoted mother of 2, grandmother of 7, great grandmother of 14, and great great grandmother of 2.

 

In her free time, Wanda enjoyed watching movies, singing in a choir, crocheting, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family.

 

She is survived by her son Frank (Kathleen) Malec and daughter Nancy (Jim) Robb.   Her cherished grandchildren Tammie (Bruce) Garnett, Kimberly Braaten, James (Gail) Robb, Frank John Malec III (Christa), Kristen (Brian) Mahoney, Joseph (Brooke) Robb, Kimberly (Adam) McHone.  Along with her 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Malec, brothers Edward Wlodek and Frank Wlodek, and sisters Mary Starzyk, Josephine Szczepanksi, Helen Kawalski, and Irene Ricci.

 

A visitation will be held at Maher Funeral Home, 17101 S. 71st Avenue., Tinley Park, Illinois 60477, on Sunday, July 9th, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by a Mass at St. George Church on July 10th at 10:00 am. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Wanda's name to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls appreciated.
